Bellingham pest control

We are Washington's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Bellingham raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Bellingham pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Bellingham Raccoon Control Tip: Dealing With A Raccoon Infestation In A Wall Cavity
When it comes to animals that can find their way into the smallest of spots around a domestic property, raccoons may not be the smallest, but they can certainly prove to be among the most persistent. There are a couple of situations in which raccoons may actually find their way into a wall cavity, and in both cases you do need to be proactive in dealing with the situation, otherwise the animals can go on to cause some significant problems in your home. In some cases they may be nesting in the wall cavity, if the space is wide enough for them to squeeze in, while in other situations you may find a raccoon that is actually trapped there.

Examining The Area For Access Points
If you are worried about a raccoon nesting in a wall cavity, then you will often see other signs such as unusual animal feces in your yard or garden, or food that has been stolen and garbage bags torn open. The first step for dealing with this type of infestation is to examine the area for where the animals are getting in and out, and usually, either around the base of the wall cavity or around the top, you will find a small hole where they are getting in and out.

Should You Use A Cage Trap Or Eviction Doors?
Most people who are dealing with a raccoon infestation will use a cage trap to deal with the infestation, as using a one way door or funnel may get rid of the raccoon, but can leave a nest of baby raccoons behind. When it comes to placing a trap to catch a raccoon, it is best to place this along the base of the wall where you see signs of the raccoon getting in and out. You should then place bait such as tinned fish or wet cat food in the trap, and monitor it regularly until you have caught the pest animal.

Checking The Area For Baby Raccoons
If you are dealing with a raccoon infestation, and it is during the spring and summer months, then there is a strong possibility that you may have a nest of baby raccoons present as well. You will need to get a sight of the cavity, either using a video camera on a flexible mounting to look into the cavity, or by taking a look down into the cavity from above.

Removal And Relocation
When it comes to dealing with the trapped raccoon, and any baby raccoons if present, you should always look to relocate these animals in a rural area where possible that is at least ten miles away from your home. IF you are choosing a relocation spot, you should also consider whether there are any other domestic properties in the surrounding area, as you do not simply want to be passing your problem on to someone else.

What If A Raccoon Is Trapped In A Wall Cavity?
The signs of a raccoon trapped in a wall cavity will often be quite different and easier to identify, as the animal will often become panicked and frantic, meaning you will hear strong scratching sounds coming from the wall cavity. In this situation, if there is an opening at the top of the wall cavity, you may be able to use a grabber stick or similar device to catch the raccoon and lift it out, or placing a plank down into the cavity can give it something to climb up. However, in some cases you will have no option but to cut a small hole into the drywall to get the raccoon out, and it is worth having a box and wearing thick gloves as you want to make sure you don't let the raccoon loose in your home.
